Native American Studies

A guide for to assist with research on Native American histories, cultures, and communities.

Welcome

"For some time now, Native American studies have assumed an increasingly central place in our understanding of the cross-cultural encounters that characterize the long history of the Americas. Challenging traditional disciplinary divisions of knowledge within literary and cultural studies, scholars working in the field of Native American studies have drawn inspiration from history, anthropology, literature, philosophy, social sciences, religion, cultural geography, art, and law. The result of this inquiry that is played out across disciplines has expanded our understanding of the complexities of indigenous life in the western hemisphere. Applying various disciplines, Native American studies have brought about new insights into western history and epistemology that require a broad perspective across nationalities and cultural identities."
