Borrow

Only current MSJC students, faculty and staff members can borrow materials and access online resources from off campus. Members of the community are welcome to use the library for research, but may not borrow materials or access online resources from off campus.

• Most items are loaned for three weeks. Chromebooks check out for the entire semester.
• A maximum of 15 items total can be loaned at one time.

Renew

Materials can often be renewed if no requests have been placed on them. Many items can be renewed online by logging into My Library Account with your MSJC login.

Return

You can return items in person at all three campus libraries or at one of our two curbside bookdrops open 24/7:

• Menifee Valley campus (Parking Lot C)
• San Jacinto campus (Parking Lot B)

Please return Chromebooks only in person.

The Library does not charge late fees, but replacement costs may be charged for lost, damaged, or never returned items. Borrowing privileges will be blocked for overdue items and/or lost item replacement fees. Additionally, a hold may be placed on student records if materials are not returned.

All notices regarding late materials and replacement charges are sent to your MSJC email.

Chromebooks

MSJC students who are currently registered for credit classes can borrow a Chromebook for the entire semester. Chromebooks are available while supplies last. Please contact the library for current availability.

Textbooks

The Libraries have many textbooks, but it is not possible to carry all textbooks due to funding. When available, at least one copy is kept for use in the library. Extra copies are available for some textbooks and can be checked out for three weeks.

A limited number of textbooks are also available online in a digital version. Please visit our Online Textbooks page.

You can search the library catalog to see if the library has the items you need. To search for textbooks, click the Textbook tab and enter the title, ISBN, or course number (HIST 111).

Contact library staff for assistance with requesting textbooks and Chromebooks. For other items you find in the library catalog, you can place a request yourself:

• Click the title
• Sign in with your MSJC login
• Select the Pickup Location
• Click Send Request

Check your MSJC email to see when the item is ready to pick up!

If you do not find the materials you need through the MSJC Libraries, it may be possible to borrow them from other U.S. libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

ILL Policies

• Allow 1-2 weeks for requests to be filled, particularly for book requests.
• Not all requests can be filled. Not all institutions will lend their materials.
• Article requests can be submitted up to 2 weeks before the end of the semester.
• Book requests can be submitted up to 4 weeks before the end of the semester.
• Only 3 ILL books may be checked out at any given time.
• Articles are typically delivered by email.
• Loan periods and any late fees or replacement costs for overdue or unreturned books are set by the lending library.
• Unpaid ILL fees may result in loss of borrowing privileges and/or a hold being placed on student records.
