EBSCOhost Collection Manager (ECM)

EBSCOhost Collection Manager (ECM) is the MSJC library platform for eBook purchases. Faculty now have access to the entire EBSCO eBook catalog to search for titles and submit purchase requests directly to librarians. Choose EBSCO eBooks to use as textbooks or supplemental readings for courses.

Steps for Success in ECM

Log in at https://ecm.ebscohost.com/Books

Contact your MSJC librarians for ECM login credentials.

Search for books using keywords, author, title, ISBN, publisher name, etc., OR by browsing Subject Sets and Featured Collections.

Note: If you see "In My Collection" below a title, the library already has access to this material! Click on the book title to see the Holdings information indicating the type of user access model and license we have (owned or subscription/shared).

User Access Models and Licensing

Access model options and licensing vary by title and publisher.

Access model definitions:

• One User – Only one user at a time can access this title - like owning only one copy of a print book.  
• Three User – Only three users at a time.
• Unlimited User – Unlimited users can access the title at the same time.
• DRM-Free – Digital Rights Management Free means the book is fully downloadable; DRM-Free is only available on selected titles with unlimited user access.
• Concurrent Access – A limited number of uses is available, rather than perpetual access. Please do not select this option!

We can often upgrade one- and three-user licenses to unlimited users or purchase additional copies/licenses when unlimited user licensing isn't available.

Licensing definitions:

• Owned - MSJC Libraries own and have perpetual access to this title.
• Shared - MSJC Libraries subscribe to a collection that includes this title.

Note that access to shared subscription licenses can be removed by the vendor at any time. If you would like perpetual access to a shared title, you may submit the title for librarian purchase review.

Creating/Submitting Purchase Request Lists in ECM

Search for eBooks in ECM using keywords, author, title, ISBN, publisher name, etc., OR by browsing Subject Sets and Featured Collections. Use the left side menu to refine your results.

When you find a title you are interested in, click the title to see more information, including a description and an option to preview the work.

Once you have determined you would like to purchase a title, select your preferred access model from the available options: One User, Three User, or Unlimited User and follow the steps below.

1. Click Add to List.
2. A dialog box, Add to List / DDA, will appear.
   • Confirm the Access Model and click Add to List.
3. Another dialog box, Create New List, will appear.
   • Use your name and department for the list name. Example: Sherri Moore_ Library.
   • Leave the "Fund Code" field empty and click Create List.
4. Your list will remain "In Progress" for additional titles until you are ready to submit it for approval. Ensure you select your own list when adding more titles.
   • TIP: Don't wait too long to submit your list. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis, and occasionally EBSCO loses the license to sell certain titles.
5. When you are finished searching for books, click My Lists in the upper right menu bar and select In Progress Lists to view your list.
6. Locate your list and click the Submit for Approval button.
   • Submit the order to Anya Franklin, which is the system default account. Note that multiple librarians monitor and review incoming requests!

Librarians will review your purchase requests and communicate with you if issues arise. You will be notified when titles have been purchased and are available for use!
