Improve library research skills   ♦   Develop information literacy

Introduction

WELCOME TO THE MSJC LIBRARIES ONLINE ORIENTATION

Designed by Credo Education and customized for MSJC, the modules that make up this online orientation will walk you through the essential elements of finding and using information for your research assignments, giving you a solid foundation in information literacy and critical thinking.

Topics are divided among six modules in the tabs above. Each module includes a selection of short videos and tutorials focused on particular aspects of the topic. You may go through all of the modules in order to complete the entire orientation, or skip directly to the specific topics you want to learn more about.

After completing all the modules in this orientation, you will be able to:

  • Select an appropriate database or catalog based upon identified information needs.
  • Demonstrate how to locate appropriate materials in the library catalog or databases using appropriate search techniques.
  • Distinguish between the types of resources available in the library catalog, e-book collections, databases, and the Internet.
  • Identify and locate an item in the library based on call number.
  • Recall how to access the library's online resources remotely.
