Honors: Find & Order Books From Other Libraries

How to Find & Order Books From Other Libraries

If you don't find what you need in MSJC's collection you can search the catalogs of other libraries and then request that those titles (up to five) be sent to you here at MVC. There is a $2.00 charge per item for this service. Make sure you give yourself enough time because it can take up to two weeks for the books to get here.

  1. Search Worldcat (below) for books on your topic.
  2. Click on the blue "Request Item through Interlibrary Loan" button on the right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Select which campus you want to pick up the item.
  4. Fill out the form
  5. Sit back and relax, we will e-mail you when your books arrive.
  6. If you want to request a book you didn't find on Worldcat, you can fill out the Interlibrary Request Form here.

What is WorldCat? WorldCat is a huge online catalog that allows you to search the MSJC catalogs and catalogs of libraries around the world all at the same time. Using Worldcat gives you access to over 1.5 Billion item records. By using WorldCat you can find resources not owned by our library and request them through Interlibrary Loan. This is particularly helpful when doing research on subjects that may have limited resources.

This approximately 8 minute tutorial shows how to use Worldcat's Advanced Search screen. Content includes command line searching, Boolean operators, wildcards, truncation and more.
